Online financial scam: what to do immediately in Malaysia

Act fast: contact your bank, call NSRC 997 and preserve the transaction evidence.

If you have transferred money to a scammer or notice an unauthorised transaction, contact your bank immediately and call the National Scam Response Centre on 997. Fast reporting may help stop or trace further movement of funds, but recovery is not guaranteed.

Keep the transaction receipt, account or wallet details, phone number, conversation, link and time of the incident. Do not delete chats or continue sending money. Change relevant banking passwords or access credentials using official channels only.

Make a police report as soon as you can. NSRC is for urgent online financial scam response; for account access or bank-service issues, also contact your bank directly.

Before calling a local service, note the exact Sibu address, a safe landmark, when the incident started, whether anyone is injured and a number that can be called back. Give observed facts rather than guesses. Do not wait for a quote, a provider reply or a map search when there is an immediate threat to life or public safety: call 999 first.

Once the scene is safe, save the reference number, time of contact, photographs taken from a safe position and any written quotation or receipt. The local contact cards below can help with follow-up from hospitals, police, fire, civil-defence, utility or roadside providers, but they do not replace the emergency system. Verify the provider's scope and any charge before authorising non-emergency work.
